Turn your Android tablet into a photo frame
Give a spare tablet a new job as your family’s digital photo frame. MiMoments runs on Android 8 or newer, with photo management from your phone or the web.
Check your tablet first
Find the Android version in your tablet settings. The MiMoments app needs Android 8 or newer: an older tablet is suitable only if it meets that requirement. Check available storage, a reliable charger and Wi-Fi where you want to place it.
Check that the device and battery are in good condition and follow the manufacturer’s charging and ventilation advice. Test the app on your particular tablet before buying a mount or planning a permanent installation.
Install and connect with six digits
Download the APK from the MiMoments homepage directly onto your tablet. Android may ask you to allow installation from your browser. Only allow the download you deliberately obtained from mimoments.com; the app is currently a preview release.
Open the app and choose photo-frame mode before login. Sign into your family account on your phone or computer, add a screen and enter the six-digit code shown on the tablet. The same Android app can run on your phone in management mode.
Choose photos and make it yours
Upload photos from your phone or the website, arrange them into albums and select one or more albums for the screen. You can also show all photos or use a multi-photo collage. Each screen can have its own selection.
A softly blurred image fills the space around photos that do not match the screen’s shape. Add a digital clock or family calendar if you like. Simple daily display hours can make the screen black at night; this does not switch the tablet off.
Connectivity, browser screens and help
The Android frame stores downloaded photos locally, so cached photos can play without internet. Setup, uploads and updates need a connection. Clearing the app’s data or uninstalling it means setting it up again.
A screen can also be a browser link opened in Chrome kiosk mode. That is an alternative to the Android app, but browser offline behaviour is not the same as the app’s local cache. On iPhone, manage your family through the website. Our downloadable step-by-step PDF guide is currently in Danish.
